The animated series “Win or Lose” from Disney will not feature a plotline related to transgender identity in an upcoming episode. The show, which follows a middle school softball team, will still feature the character originally intended to have the storyline, but references to gender identity will be removed.
A Disney spokesperson stated that the decision reflects a desire to allow parents to discuss sensitive topics with their children at their own pace. The change follows previous controversies regarding LGBTQ+ content in Disney’s programming.
The spokesperson stated, “When it comes to animated content for a younger audience, we recognize that many parents would prefer to discuss certain subjects with their children on their own terms and timeline.”
The voice actress for the character, Chanel Stewart, expressed disappointment over the decision, emphasizing the importance of sharing trans stories. Stewart said, “From the moment I got the script, I was excited to share my journey to help empower other trans youth.”
Stewart added, “I knew this would be a very important conversation. Trans stories matter, and they deserve to be heard.”
